I Have Returned

Arrived in Oakland this morning, after which I ate lunch, took a nap, and then went running. It turns out that running 14 miles, after spending a week (mostly) sitting in a car and eating fast food, is a difficult and painful experience. I did discover that Tilden Park actually has a lot of rabbits but they only come out around sunset. Unfortunately, that’s also when swarms of gnats congest the airspace above the trail.
This week I’ll attempt to resume regular blogging. I also have a ton of pictures, mostly taken from cliffs in Arizona, to sort through and post.

Well, running 14 miles (pain notwithstanding) is pretty impressive in my book. I can’t come close to doing that…

Tilden Park eh? I haven’t been there in ages, in fact I don’t even remember what it looks like anymore (all the parks along that range have blurred into one in my mind…)
Also, I suddenly feel much less proud of the fact that I’ve been jogging a mile every morning before work. At least I’ve kept it up for three weeks…
Lastly, I’ve been working on the CD you left me. I tend to listen while focusing on other things, so it’ll take me quite a few iterations to digest the lyrics. I really dig it for the most part though, I must say.

A mile a day still kicks my ass. I walk more than that every day just going to and from work, but I imagine that doesn’t help me as much as jogging would.

I also dig the CD, except I really wonder what the songs are called and who they’re by. :) If you happen to have the list handy for posting (was it in a previous post? I looked but didn’t see it, but didn’t look very hard) or emailing, i’d appreciate it. Otherwise i’ll bug Lemming for it. :)
Also, thanks again for the awesome Cthulu game. :) I’m looking forward to continuing it.

Mason: It may not be as effective as running, but I’ve found that walking does keep me in pretty good shape. I was slacking off from running for a long period last winter, but due to my 1.5 mile (each way) walk to campus I was able to restart my training at a much higher level than I otherwise could have done.
Zifnab: I haven’t posted the songlist before, but I do have it handy:
01 The Delgados – I Fought the Angels
02 The Futureheads – Decent Days and Nights
03 Architecture in Helsinki – Maybe You Can Owe Me
04 Snow Patrol – Tiny Little Fractures
05 Fischerspooner – Just Let Go
06 Iron & Wine – Free Until They Cut Me Down
    07 Ratatat – Desert Eagle
08 Belle & Sebastian – The Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner
09 The Faint – Your Retro Career Melted
10 The Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies)
    11 Bloc Party – Helicopter
12 Blonde Redhead – Falling Man
13 Broken Social Scene – Almost Crimes
    14 Pinback – Sender
    15 Sleater-Kinney – The End of You
16 The Hold Steady – Banging Camp
    17 The Libertines – I Get Along
18 The New Pornographers – It’s Only Divine Right
19 TV on the Radio – Staring at the Sun
20 Pretty Girls Make Graves – A Certain Cemetery

Mason: The “jogging” isn’t as impressive as I might hope, largely due to the fact that it’s differentiated from walking by little more than creative interpretation (though it is improving). To be fair, though (ha, thoughthough!), the jogging is actually just the warmup I do before heading into the gym for my workout.
Zif: I named the tracks today at work, in case you want to save yourself the typing. Alternatively, the CD is in my car now, so you could re-rip if you like next time I’m over (tomorrow, around 7pm, right?)
Gazebo: I meant to ask, and hopefully without sounding self-centered… did you mix this one for me in particular? I just wanted to know before I started thinking about my writeup.

AG: Yay, thanks. :) Now I know that I need to go look at other tracks by the Delgados, among others.
L: Hmm, re-ripping the CD might be ideal, as I really want them in mp3, not the format which means I can only play them on one computer (yes, I could get iTunes for the rest of the computers, but I don’t like it, thus don’t see the point).

Lemming: I made the CD with you in mind; it wasn’t that I used songs that reminded me of you in some conscious way, but rather that some of the songs just seemed to have an appropriate sound for you. If that makes any sense.
Zifnab: That song by The Delgados came from the album Universal Audio, which is thoroughly awesome. Their other stuff is also excellent, but Universal Audio is my favorite.

Gazebo: Perfect, you’ve managed to satiate my selfishness without adding to the interpretive task before me. Excellent!
