Photos from Washington, D.C.

I managed to upload a batch of pictures while they were still current. These are from my D.C. visit last week and are mostly from the National Mall (particularly the WWII Memorial, which I hadn’t seen before). The other photos are here.

It’s the museum of the american indian, and not really about indian art so much as indian culture and (abbreviated) history. I visited it when I went to DC in February and was underwhelmed.

  2. Arcane Gazebo

Lemming: It’s much like Millikan Library in this regard.
Wren: I didn’t realize that, probably because I didn’t go inside. It looks neat from the outside, though.

A note: the creek feeding the marsh and that fountain? It runs *over* another creek, the Tiber, which ran down the Mall, back before the 1890s, when it was channelized and put underground. When the gardens were constructed, the Washington Post architecture reviewer had a hilarious article about the double-decker creek.
Also, *I* think the best part of that museum is outside. The displays are really hampered by politics.
